The biggest problem in building your Hydrogen Generator is not in assembling all the parts or constructing it- but the one that causes all the problems just when you are ready to get ” cooking.” I mean that your generator is bubbling away but you have no hydrogen in the water. Whats happened you say. What has happened is that you have been caught by old mister seal. Your canister is not sealed and your gas is leaking out. Well what can you do?
There are several solutions for this very common problem. First you can go back to the original metal seal , the original screw cap and set up your metal top with the proper holes for the vacuum hoses and the high pressure check valve and other openings. It should seal very well as long as the metal doesn’t twist and distort from the pressure during electrolysis. Or you can use the recommended plastic wide-mouth top but this time build yourself a gasket from the metal lid and use it to snug-up your top. Finally, and this is my choice, you can wrap plumbers teflon tape around the top of the jar and screw the plastic top tightly onto the Electrolysis unit. This has worked well for me without getting into cutting a disc ( from the metal top) or heat shrinking a plastic coke bottle over the generator ( yes, that one was tried and according to the author of the post, worked quite well) .
I think that the joy of experimentation is trying different things and finding one that works well for you. Not only are we going to save money by getting additional miles per gallon but there is a certain visceral joy in trying something like taping a lid and having it work. Specially for those of us who have some problem with manipulating a screwdriver or operating a hammer. This is the true essence of the Do It Yourselfer.
